A number of ready-made soups are incredibly high in sugar! Making your can be a little time-consuming but is extremely easy, You can even make it quick by cheating a little and blending veg and heating later.

Cereals & Cereal Bars
Often advertised as the “healthy way to start your day”. The reality is most cereals are very high in sugar, I challenge you to look at the sugar content on any box of cereal even the “healthy” ones and you’ll be shocked by just how much sugar they contain.
Something we don’t always consider for sugar intake is what we drink. Soda/ fizzy drinks are very high in sugar. We all know in reality that they are high in sugar but it’s something we don’t actually consider at the time. As I mentioned above a standard can of coke contains 30g of sugar!
Table Sauces/ Condiments
BBQ, sweet chili and tomato sauce are particularly big culprits when it comes being very high in sugar.
Most of us will add them to our meal without a second thought. I suggest checking the nutrition content and opt for condiments that are lower in sugar, again it’s actually quite easy to make your own in order to have complete control over the ingredients.
If you cook with jar or packet sauces, they’re often filled with sugar to improve the “flavour”. Again making your own sauces can be pretty easy, where possible I suggest that is the option you go for.
Granola & Granola Bars
Often viewed as a “healthier” alternative to your standard cereal, Granola is breakfast, snack and dessert choice for many trying to be health conscious.
The problem is that in order to make it more palatable, a lot of sugar is added, most granola actually have a higher ratio of sugar than coke.
The main thing in fast food that tends to get “demonized” is the fats, what you may not realise though, is that a number of fast foods are very high in sugar. Pizza tends to be the main culprit; but your average fast food meal is usually extremely high in sugar.
Flavoured coffees have been growing in popularity in recent years and continue to do so; but the amount of sugars in the syrups used for flavouring is absolutely astounding!
In some coffee shops a large coffee can contain up to 25 teaspoons of sugar. The equivalent of 100 grams of added sugar per serving and over three times the sugar in your average can of coke!
Low Fat Foods & Meals
As we’ve mentioned low fat foods usually have added sugar to “enhance the flavour”, this is the case even for “healthy foods”.
As an example a typical single cup of low-fat yogurt can contain up to 47 grams of sugar, that is the equivalent of twelve teaspoons.
It also has far fewer nutrients than the full fat versions and this is usually the case with most low fat versions of foods.
Sports drinks can often be mistaken as a healthy choice for those who exercise. Sports drinks have actually been designed to hydrate and fuel trained athletes during periods of prolonged and intense periods of exercise.
Due to this they contain high amounts of added sugars, so they can be swiftly absorbed for energy. Your average bottle contains approximately 32g, so slightly more than your average can of coke.
Protein bars are a popular snack and are becoming even more popular. Lots of people are keen to get more protein in their diet and this has led to a belief that these bars are a healthy snack.
Now that’s not say that all protein bars are an issue; but some have as much as 30g of added sugar, putting it on a level playing field with many chocolate bars. So if you do want a protein bar for the extra protein, make sure you check the sugar content.
