How Can A shower Gel Be A Testosterone Booster?
This is probably the first thing that is coming to mind when reading the title for this article. While shower gels can’t be a testosterone booster, lots of products and most shower gels contain chemicals that can potentially lower testosterone production. This is why we’re looking at brands that don’t contain these chemicals and why shower gels that don’t contain them can be looked at as giving you a “testosterone booster”. You can find out more about the chemicals found in most shower gels and the negative impact they have on Testosterone and your wider health in this The Chemicals That Lower Testosterone In Shower Gel Article – If you’re interested in the products that contain the chemicals that lower testosterone as whole, check out these Chemicals That Lower Testosterone – Where Are They Found Article
How Low Testosterone Effects You
Across a few different articles we’ve covered how testosterone and health are linked. Just wanted to give youa reminder of the issues low T can cause. To name a few, this includes:
- Reduced/ loss of muscle mass
- Retaining body fat
- Decreased motivation
- Increased likelihood of depression
- Increased likelihood of type 2 diabetes
- Lack of/ lowered sex drive
You can get a clear overview of how low T negatively impacts health and how higher testosterone brings health benefits are linked in these Testosterone And Health Articles.
So now we’ve established why you want to make sure you keep your testosterone levels up and why most shower gels can lead to lowered testosterone production, lets take a look at my recommended shower gel brands that won’t lead to lowered T.
They are a vegan and natural skin care brand designed for men. Their products are free of plastic microbeads, synthetic fragrances, parabens, sodium laureth sulfate/ SLS. All of which have been shown can negatively impact your health and hormone production, including lowering testosterone and artificially increase estrogen levels. They also have packaging made from bamboo and not traditional plastics, so great news for those of you who want to use environmentally friendly products.
Product Use, Effectiveness & Scents
In my experience you don’t need to use as much of the Bull dog shower gel in comparison with most brands. As it doesn’t contain SLS (one of the toxic chemicals mentioned above) the product doesn’t foam so you don’t need to use greater amounts thinking you need more to make it foam. I’ve always found you get a great “refreshed and clean” feeling after use and I’m a big fan of the different scents they offer.
They have recently expanded the number of scents they offer. Initially they just had had their original which is a blend of citrus, fresh mint, eucalyptus, cedar wood and patchouli. As I’ve mentioned they’ve now expanded to the following scents as well:
- Lemon & Bergamot
- Peppermint & Eucalyptus
- Vetiver & Black Pepper
They are more expensive than your average shower gels products, a 200ml container will cost you approximately £3.00 – £4.00 – That being said you don’t need to use as much as your traditional shower gel and the health benefits gained more than make up for the extra price. You can get “multi-buy” deals on Amazon which brings the price down.
Overall Rating & Where To Purchase: 4.5/5
I regularly use the product, the quality of the ingredients is very high, as previously mentioned it is free of the chemicals that lower testosterone and can potentially cause other health issues. The reason it doesn’t get full marks is due to only having scents purely for men at present.
I recommend purchasing on Amazon, you can purchase in multi packs which brings the cost down and they often include them in their “add on” offers where you can get them for a discounted price when spending £20+ on other products. They don’t just provide shower gels but a wide range of male skin care items, you can check out their wider range here.
They are a natural skin care brand for men, their products are also free from microbeads, synthetic fragrance, parabens, sulfates/ SLS and petrochemicals. As we’ve mentioned elsewhere these are the chemicals that can potentially lower testosterone production and damage your wider health. You can find out more about how these chemicals are in most shower gels and how they affect the body in this Chemicals That Lower Testosterone In Shower Gel Article. Their products are never tested on animals and their products while still being plastic are 100% recyclable.
Product Use, Effectiveness & Scents
Much the same as the bull dog shower gel, I’ve found that you don’t need to use a great deal of the shower gel. Again because it doesn’t contain SLS it doesn’t really turn in to a “foam” so don’t let that bother you. I always feel very refreshed and clean after use as well.
They only have the two different scents of shower gel, which are lemon & Oak and Cedarwood. Out of all the products we’re going to look at, the lemon & Oak scent is actually my favorite! They also provide a sensitive body wash, for those with very sensitive skin.
Again a bit more expensive than average shower gel products, 200ml will cost you just under £4.00. As metioned above, I’ve always found it goes a bit farther than you traditional shower gel and again I feel the health benefits gained justify the price. Again on Amazon you can get buy multi pack deals, and in some scenarios “add on item” deals which bring the cost down a fair bit.
Overall Rating & Where To Purchase: 4/5
This is the shower gel I use most often, mainly because the lemon & Oak scent is my favorite as I mentioned above. I highly recommend it as it does’t contain the toxic chemicals that can potentially lower T and cause other issues. In my opinion they have great smelling scents. The reason I haven’t given it full marks is, I think their range of scents is a bit thin compared with similar brands, their packaging is still standard (fully recyclable) plastic and the scents are aimed purely at men. Something else to note is they have options for sensitive skin, a very broad range of other products and I personally like their scents best!
Again I recommend purchasing on Amazon, the multi pack options make the price quite competitive and they are also often included in the Amazon “add on” offers, where you can get them for a discounted price when spending £20+ on other products provided by Amazon. As mentioned above mancave have a wide range of grooming and personal care items, all of which are available for purchase on Amazon, you can see their wider range here!
A natural skin care company founded in the UK, Green People have been trading since 1997. Their products are organic and don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, alcohol and synthetic fragrances or colorants. They also don’t test any of their products on animals.
Product Use, Effectiveness & Scents
The same as the bull dog and the man cave products, I’ve found with the Green People Shower gels you don’t need to use as much as most commercially available brands. Like the other two, as it doesn’t contain SLS (one of the toxic chemicals mentioned above) the product doesn’t foam so you don’t need to use greater amounts thinking you need more to make it foam. I will go in to their scents in a bit more details below; but some of their scents I’ve found to be more “effective than others” some leave me with a “cleaner” feeling than the others; and a couple of their scents I’m not keen on at all, those namely being the”Green people for men” and the “aloe” one.
The reason I’m not keen on the Aloe one, is more down to a personal preference and just not liking the smell. The reason I don’t like the green people for men shower gel is, I find the scent to be to subtle but unlike the other products I’ve also found that it doesn’t last particularly long.
As already mentioned they do have quite a broad range of shower gel scents and lines. On top of a vitamin, moisturizing and childrens shower gel. Their main scents are as follows:
- Neutral/ Scentless
- Quinoa & Calendula
- Green People For Men
As you can see, they are a lot more expensive than your average shower gel and a fair bit more expensive than the Bull dog and man cave products. A 200ml container will cost you approximately £11.00 – £12.00. I believe a large part of the price is due to the product being organic as well as free of the toxic chemicals. The products sell on Amazon for slightly less than they do on their direct website so I’d advise buying their, for me the price is what lets this product down.
Overall Rating & Where To Purchase: 3.5/5
I’ve used their shower gel a few times; but actually stopped using it in favor of the mancave and bull dog products. Their scentless shower gel is very good and I’m a big fan of the Quinoa and Calendula one as well. Like
mentioned I’ve had poor experience with “for men” product and I’m personally not keen on the Aloe product. The quality of their ingredients is extremely high and all the products being organic is a big added bonus on top of being free of the toxic chemicals that can potentially lower Testosterone.
What I also like is that they have an extremely large range of organic care products, from shower products through to oral care and all the scents are suitable for both men and women. For me the extremely high price and the fact a couple of the products in my opinion are sub par, brings their overall rating down a bit, still a very good product if you want a shower gel and personal hygiene items that are free of toxic chemicals, endocrine disruptors/ chemicals that can lower testosterone and potential negatively impact your wider health.
Again I recommend purchasing their products on Amazon, they are actually a bit cheaper on their than they are their direct website. As I’ve mentioned, they have a very big range of organic grooming and personal care items, most of which is available for purchase on Amazon, you can see their wider range here!
Final Thoughts & Questions
I hope you have found this article on my recommended shower gels useful and have a bit more of an understanding of why using one of these shower gels can potentially be a testosterone booster, as well as the importance of avoiding shower gels that contain toxic chemicals (which is most sadly).
