How Can A shower Gel Be A Testosterone Booster?

Muscular Man

This is probably the first thing that is coming to mind when reading the title for this article.

While shower gels can’t be a testosterone booster, lots of products and most shower gels contain chemicals that can potentially lower testosterone production.

This is why we’re looking at brands that don’t contain these chemicals and why shower gels that don’t contain them can be looked at as giving you a “testosterone booster”.

You can find out more about the chemicals found in most shower gels and the negative impact they have on testosterone and your wider health in the below article.

The Chemicals That Lower Testosterone In Shower Gel Article

If you’re interested in the products that contain the chemicals that lower testosterone as whole, check out the article below.

Chemicals That Lower Testosterone – Where Are They Found Article

How Low Testosterone Impacts You

depressed man

Across a few different articles we’ve covered how testosterone and health are linked.

Just wanted to give you a reminder of the issues low T can cause. To name a few, this includes:

  • Reduced/ loss of muscle mass
  • Retaining body fat
  • Decreased motivation
  • Increased likelihood of depression
  • Increased likelihood of type 2 diabetes
  • Lack of/ lowered sex drive

You can get a clear overview of how low T negatively impacts health and how higher testosterone brings health benefits are linked in these articles.

Testosterone And Health

So now we’ve established why you want to make sure you keep your testosterone levels up.

Why most shower gels can lead to lowered testosterone production, lets take a look at my recommended shower gel brands that won’t lead to lowered T.

Bull Dog Skin Care For Men

Bulldog Shower Gel

They are a vegan and natural skin care brand designed for men.

Their products are free of plastic microbeads, synthetic fragrances, parabens, sodium laureth sulfate/ SLS.

All of which have been shown can negatively impact your health and hormone production.

This includes lowering testosterone and artificially increase estrogen levels.

They also have packaging made from bamboo and not traditional plastics.

So great news for those of you who want to use environmentally friendly products.

Product Use, Effectiveness & Scents

In my experience you don’t need to use as much of the Bull dog shower gel in comparison with most brands.

As it doesn’t contain SLS (one of the toxic chemicals mentioned above) the product doesn’t foam so you don’t need to use greater amounts thinking you need more to make it foam.

I’ve always found you get a great “refreshed and clean” feeling after use and I’m a big fan of the different scents they offer.

They have recently expanded the number of scents they offer.

Initially they just had had their original which is a blend of citrus, fresh mint, eucalyptus, cedar wood and patchouli.

As I’ve mentioned they’ve now expanded to the following scents as well:

  • Lemon & Bergamot
  • Peppermint & Eucalyptus
  • Vetiver & Black Pepper

black pepper

Price

Average UK Price: £3.00 – £4.00

Average US Price: $8.49

They are more expensive than your average shower gels products, a 200ml container will cost you approximately £3.00 – £4.00.

That being said you don’t need to use as much as your traditional shower gel and the health benefits gained more than make up for the extra price.

You can get “multi-buy” deals on Amazon which brings the price down.

Overall Rating & Where To Purchase: 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

I regularly use the product, the quality of the ingredients is very high, as previously mentioned it is free of the chemicals that lower testosterone and can potentially cause other health issues.

The reason it doesn’t get full marks is due to only having scents purely for men at present.

I recommend purchasing on Amazon UK & Amazon US

You can purchase in multi packs which brings the cost down and they often include them in their “add on” offers.

Where you can get them for a discounted price when spending £20+ on other products.

They don’t just provide shower gels but a wide range of male skin care items, you can check out below.

If you are based outside of the UK or US and interested in finding out more/ purchasing The Bulldog skincare products.

You can see all the different non UK options to purchase below.

The Bulldog Skincare Overview Article

Man Cave Natural Grooming Gear

Man Cave Shower Gel

They are a natural skin care brand for men, their products are also free from microbeads, synthetic fragrance, parabens, sulfates/ SLS and petrochemicals.

As we’ve mentioned elsewhere these are the chemicals that can potentially lower testosterone production and damage your wider health.

You can find out more about how these chemicals are in most shower gels and how they affect the body in the article below.

Chemicals That Lower Testosterone In Shower Gel Article

Their products are never tested on animals and their products while still being plastic are 100% recyclable.

Product Use, Effectiveness & Scents

Much the same as the bull dog shower gel, I’ve found that you don’t need to use a great deal of the shower gel.

Again because it doesn’t contain SLS it doesn’t really turn in to a “foam” so don’t let that bother you.

I always feel very refreshed and clean after use as well.

They only have the two different scents of shower gel, which are lemon & Oak and Cedarwood.

Out of all the products we’re going to look at, the lemon & Oak scent is actually my favorite!

They also provide a sensitive body wash, for those with very sensitive skin.

lemons

Price

Average UK Price: £3.99

Average US Price: $11.50

Again a bit more expensive than average shower gel products, 200ml will cost you just under £4.00/ $11.50.

As metioned above, I’ve always found it goes a bit farther than you traditional shower gel and again I feel the health benefits gained justify the price.

Again on Amazon you can get buy multi pack deals, and in some scenarios “add on item” deals which bring the cost down a fair bit.

Overall Rating & Where To Purchase: 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

This is the shower gel I use most often, mainly because the lemon & Oak scent is my favorite as I mentioned above.

I highly recommend it as it doesn’t contain the toxic chemicals that can potentially lower T and cause other issues.

In my opinion they have great smelling scents.

The reason I haven’t given it full marks is, I think their range of scents is a bit thin compared with similar brands.

Their packaging is still standard (fully recyclable) plastic and the scents are aimed purely at men.

Something else to note is they have options for sensitive skin, a very broad range of other products and I personally like their scents best!

Again I recommend purchasing on Amazon UK & Amazon US

The multi pack options make the price quite competitive and they are also often included in the Amazon “add on” offers.

Where you can get them for a discounted price when spending £20+ on other products provided by Amazon.

As mentioned above mancave have a wide range of grooming and personal care items.

All of which are available for purchase on Amazon, you can see the wider range below.

Man Cave Grooming Products Review

Green People

Green People Shower Gel

A natural skin care company founded in the UK, Green People have been trading since 1997.

Their products are organic and don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, alcohol and synthetic fragrances or colorants.

They also don’t test any of their products on animals.

Product Use, Effectiveness & Scents

The same as the bull dog and the man cave products, I’ve found with the Green People Shower gels.

You don’t need to use as much as most commercially available brands.

Like the other two, as it doesn’t contain SLS (one of the toxic chemicals mentioned above) the product doesn’t foam so you don’t need to use greater amounts thinking you need more to make it foam.

I will go in to their scents in a bit more details below; but some of their scents I’ve found to be more “effective than others”.

Some leave me with a “cleaner” feeling than the others; and a couple of their scents I’m not keen on at all.

Those namely being the “Green people for men” and the “aloe” one.

The reason I’m not keen on the Aloe one, is more down to a personal preference and just not liking the smell.

The reason I don’t like the green people for men shower gel is I find the scent to be to subtle but unlike the other products I’ve also found that it doesn’t last particularly long.

As already mentioned they do have quite a broad range of shower gel scents and lines.

On top of a vitamin, moisturizing and childrens shower gel. Their main scents are as follows:

  • Neutral/ Scentless
  • Aloe
  • Quinoa & Calendula
  • Green People For Men

aloe

Price

Average Price: £11.00 – £12.00

As you can see, they are a lot more expensive than your average shower gel and a fair bit more expensive than the Bull dog and man cave products.

A 200ml container will cost you approximately £11.00 – £12.00.

I believe a large part of the price is due to the product being organic as well as free of the toxic chemicals.

The products sell on Amazon for slightly less than they do on their direct website so I’d advise buying their, for me the price is what lets this product down.

Overall Rating & Where To Purchase: 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)

Green People Shower Gel

I’ve used their shower gel a few times; but actually stopped using it in favor of the mancave and bull dog products.

Their scentless shower gel is very good and I’m a big fan of the Quinoa and Calendula one as well.

Like mentioned I’ve had poor experience with the “for men” product and I’m personally not keen on the Aloe product.

The quality of their ingredients is extremely high and all the products being organic is a big added bonus.

On top of that, they are free of the toxic chemicals that can potentially lower testosterone production.

What I also like is that they have an extremely large range of organic care products.

From shower products through to oral care and all the scents are suitable for both men and women.

For me the extremely high price and the fact a couple of the products in my opinion are sub par, brings their overall rating down a bit.

Still a very good product if you want a shower gel and personal hygiene items that are free of toxic chemicals.

Free of endocrine disruptors/ chemicals that can lower testosterone and potential negatively impact your wider health.

Again I recommend purchasing their products on Amazon UK

They are actually a bit cheaper on their than they are their direct website.

As I’ve mentioned, they have a very big range of organic grooming and personal care items.

Most of these are available to purchase on Amazon, you can see their range below.

That’s interesting, especially since I’m a woman, and I think I need this lol! I have all the symptoms you mentioned above…

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hi Buffy,

As a woman it is possible to have too little testosterone/ too much estrogen. If you genuinely think you are suffering from low T, yep swapping shower gel is a good start but I’d also advise taking a look at this testosterone and health article

  2. Marko says:

Hello there, this is very informative article. I didn’t know that shower gels can have that kind of effect on you. I never really paid attention to what is in those shower gels, I was picking them by how they smell 🙂 Thank you for providing us with this useful information, I will check your other articles for sure. This article is done very good and provides alternatives to usual shower gels. As I mentioned already, I didn’t even know that there is a difference in shower gels until I read this article.

Thank you for this information, keep up with good work here!

    Marko

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hey Marko,

I’m glad you found the article useful.

Sadly most shower gels contain these toxic chemicals, so you aren’t alone in picking a shower gel based mainly on scent, as most people aren’t aware that shower gels contain these chemicals.

For men in particualr lowered testosterone in a big issue, if you need more info on how this affects you, I suggest you check out this testosterone and health article

  3. Joseph says:

Thank you, Nate for a very informative article. I quit using any kind of deodorant or anti-perspirant a while back because I had concerns what effects these chemicals could be having on my body. Your article has made me consider what other common products could be harmful in the long run. Should we be worried about lotions, topicals, etc.?

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hi Joseph,

I’m glad you found this useful!

Yeah the chemicals in most brands of antiperspirants & deodorants do have toxic properties including potentially lowering testosterone production. Sadly most skin care and cosmetic items do contain chemicals that lower testosterone, I wouldn’t stop using anti-perspirants, shower gels etc. completely, there are brands that are free of these chemicals, you can check out my recommended brands here:

      Hey Charles,

No problem. I’m glad you’ve found this useful!

Yeah sadly lowered testosterone is just one of multiple potential issues most of these brands can cause. I’d advise checking out this article on my recommended testosterone booster shower gels – To find shower gel brands that won’t cause these health issues

    Andy

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hi Andy,

I’m glad you found it useful!

Yes sadly lowered testosterone is just one of the potential health risks associated with most shower gel brands.

  6. cbdforpet.eu says:

Hi Nate, thanks for sharing. I was not aware that some chemicals in shower gel can reduce the level of testosteron. It is very interesting, and I need to check whether my gel contains any of them.

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hey,

I’m glad you found it useful, sadly most shower gel brands do contain these chemicals.

If you want to see some shower gels that don’t contain these toxic chemicals that lower testosterone and cause other health issues, check out this article on my recommended shower gels for a testosterone booster

  7. evansese says:

    hello dear,

thanks for sharing such an informative post on recommended shower gel for a test run booster..I quit using any kind of deodorant or anti-perspirant a while back because I had concerns what effects these chemicals could be having on
my body. Your article has made me consider what other common products
could be harmful in the long run. I must say you did an amazing job for sharing, have a great day

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hey Evaneese,

Good to know you’ve found this useful! Deodorants are a pretty notorious source of toxic chemicals that lower testosterone & can cause multiple other health issues.

Sadly there a wide number of products that are manufactured with these chemicals that lower testosterone & again can cause multiple health issues.

Good news is the shower gel brands that I’ve recommended also have anti perspirant & other products, so a wide range of products that can provide a testosterone booster, by not exposing you to the chemicals toxins.

  8. David says:

Thank you for the informative review.  I have heard about health concerns surrounding SLS for a number of years.  I wasn’t aware that it had a negative impact on testosterone.  I’m a male in my early 50’s so low testosterone is certainly a concern of mine.  I tend to use a bar of soap rather than a shower gel.  Do you know if there are chemicals found in bars of soap that are not in shower gels that could also adversely affect T levels?
I have joined your mailing list and downloaded your ebook.
    Cheers,
    David

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hey David,

Thanks, I’m glad that you’ve found this useful!

Yeah sadly SLS can lead to a number of health issues, with lowered testosterone & hormone imbalances being among them.

It depends on the soap brand, but most brands also contain chemicals that lower testosterone & can cause health issue. Swapping to a brand like the ones I outlined will help deliver a testosterone booster.

If you prefer a bar of soap, you can also swap to an organic soap bar brand.

  9. Enrique says:

I’ve had to take precautions ever since I developed testosterone problems several years ago. I’ve tried to eat more healthily, work out, and take supplements.

I’d heard about things that are bad for men like carrying your cell phone in your pocket. So, that’s why it doesn’t surprise me when you mention that chemicals from shower gels can affect us in that regard, too.

I’ve used shower gels only a few times. Maybe I have tried the correct ones. Which one would you recommend to start with? Also, how long does one typically last?

    Thanks!

    1. Nate Stone says:

      Hey Enrique,

It sounds like you are doing the right things to increase testosterone naturally.

Yes carrying your cell phone in your pocket and exposure to radiation from electrical devices negatively impacts testosterone production. You may be interested in this article Faradays CEO Interview On Their EMF Blocking Underwear as it goes in to this in a bit more detail.

Essentially most shower gels, soaps & cosmetic items are manufactured with toxic chemicals that lower testosterone & negatively impact other areas of health.

Out of the three products I’ve recommended for a testosterone booster, my personal favorite is  Bulldog Cosmetics
